The VK-51SE makes substantial improvements to its power distribution system with a completely revised SUPER-PAK, that uses oil-capacitors for power supply bypass. These augment an extensive use of film capacitors employed in the same area. The result is a smoother response from top-to-bottom over the already stellar performance of the VK-50SE. Moreover, the power supply energy storage of the VK-51SE is now increased to over 325 joules. This is an almost insane level of energy storage for a preamplifier, but then you'd expect nothing less from BAT in their reference class preamplifier.

The primary goal for the VK-31SE is to bring its performance much closer to that of our groundbreaking VK-50SE preamplifier. While the gain block utilizing the superlative 6H30 SuperTube remains largely unchanged from the VK-30SE, substantial improvements have been made in the power supply of the VK-31SE. It now incorporates a SUPER-PAK that doubles the power supply energy storage from the already exemplary level of the VK-30SE. The VK-31SE power supply now provides over 260 joules of energy storage - a massive amount that would be worthy of many power amplifiers! The result is a noticeable improvement in bass performance for the VK-31SE, both in ultimate heft as well as taut response - bringing it much closer to the definitive performance of our reference class preamplification.

The A-50V is a stereo power amplifier based on the same design technology as the M-2000. It uses MOS-FET devices selected for their musical qualities which are driven in a no-holds-barred class-A circuit configuration. The amplifier brings out even the most delicate nuances in the source with full authority. This is Accuphase sound at its very best.
Pure class-A operation means that the circuit always draws the same amount of power from the power supply, regardless of the presence or absence of a music signal. It is impervious against external influences and has high stability. The output stage produces considerable amounts of thermal energy, but in the A-50V this is dissipated by extra-large heat sinks for the left and right channels, to prevent the possibility of problems caused by internal heat buildup.

The Quad QC-24 Preamplifier starts life as a modest yet nicely finished piece, measuring just short of 12 inches wide, standing 3½ inches tall and going about 8¾ inches deep (including rear connectors). Despite its modest dimensions, the Twenty-Four is a full-featured preamplifier sporting five line-level inputs, two buffered tape loops and twin pairs of outputs to facilitate subwoofing or biamping; a nice touch. The Quad II-forty retains the elegance of the 1950s Quad II but with a level of sophistication, a build quality and finish rarely seen on any product old or new. The chassis has been substantially increased in size to accommodate the much larger components, all of which are hard wired by hand following a similar topology to the original. The modern listener demands a higher output than the fifteen watts of the original Quad II. The new Quad II-forty uses larger output valves, KT88s instead of KT66s, and a more robust power supply utilising a 5U4G rectifier valve. The input valves are now military specification 6SH7s instead of EF86s.

The Burmester 991 Integrated Amplifier is direct descendent of the legendary big Burmester Amps. Its circuitry resembles the 911 power amp.
The 991 is also DC-coupled with balanced signal paths. It has no capacitors in the signal path. Utilizing very high damping factor and outstanding load stability derived from an oversized custom-designed 300 VA transformer, therefore it is able to handle even the most difficult load down to 2 ohms.

The Burmester 995 is a high-end speaker from top to toe. It offers excellent resolution, dynamics, speed and purity if the power handling limits are not exceeded. The strengths of this speaker are easily comparable to even more expensive speakers like the Audio Physic Avanti V. For example some of the low level information is extremely easy to catch with these speakers; sometimes I had even a feeling that 995 slightly overdose on certain details. The bass region of 995 is also excellent but needs to be driven within its limits which is evident from the power rating specs.

The Conrad Johnson PV10B (with phono stage) offered refinements to the circuitry of the PV10A. Improvements included incorporating the line stage circuit of the PV12A that eliminated local feedback from the voltage gain stage. The PV10B also featured addition of "bypass" capacitors in parallel with critical power supply and audio circuit capacitors, and upgrading several resistors in the power supplies. Both the phono and line stages continued to be zero feedback design. The phono section uses two triode amplifiers separated by a passive RIAA equalization network.
